“God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.”

“God is our refuge and strength,
an ever-present help in trouble.”
— Psalm 46:1 (NIV)

DEVOTIONAL

When you stand in front of something like this, you feel it immediately—it’s solid, unmovable, and far bigger than you. It doesn’t shift with the wind, and it doesn’t change with the day. It simply stands.

Life, on the other hand, can feel anything but steady. Problems come unexpectedly. Situations shift. Things we thought were secure suddenly feel uncertain. It’s easy to feel small when you’re facing something that seems bigger than you.

But this verse reminds us of something powerful: God is not just present—He is a refuge. A place to step into. A source of strength that doesn’t depend on how strong you feel in the moment.

Whatever you’re facing right now may feel overwhelming. But it is not greater than the One you can stand in. God doesn’t ask you to be stronger than your situation—He invites you to find strength in Him.

And unlike everything else, He doesn’t move.

REFLECTION

What situation in your life feels bigger than you right now?

Are you trying to face it on your own strength instead of turning to God?

What would it look like to step into Him as your refuge today?

PRAYER

Lord, when I feel overwhelmed, remind me that You are my refuge and my strength. Help me stop relying on my own ability to handle everything and instead turn to You. Be my steady place when life feels uncertain. Amen.

What you’re facing may feel big—but it’s not bigger than where you can stand.
